Half-day Training Course

This CPD training course is open to all but particularly teachers, support workers and others working with children who are fussy or picky eaters and those with feeding difficulties & challenges. Our expert trainers will equip you with a better understanding in this area, practical advice, strategies & tools which you can employ when supporting children and young people who have eating difficulties or those who are displaying concerning behaviours around food and mealtimes. Key areas we will focus on include:

• Understanding the developmental stages of food acceptance

• Diagnosis of Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder

• The importance of appetite regulation and understanding height and weight assessment

• Exploring strategies and interventions

• Managing sensory issues and anxiety

• Making adjustments to support children within your setting

Dr Gillian Harris

Dr Harris has carried out research into infant and child feeding behaviour and appetite regulation at the University of Birmingham, School of Psychology, UK, for the past 38 years. She was also a Consultant Paediatric Clinical Psychologist for 30 years, and led a feeding clinic at The Children’s Hospital, Birmingham, UK, where she worked with infants and children who were food averse.


Sarah Mason

Sarah Mason is a speech and language therapist who developed her interest in feeding difficulties while working at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for twenty years. She began to work closely with Dr Harris and developed a particular interest in avoidant eating and the effects of tube feeding on the development of oral feeding in infancy. This was the subject of her MPhil, completed at Birmingham University. She now works privately with Dr Harris. Particularly relating

REGISTRATION TERMS & CONDITIONS 1. Once we have received your booking online, by telephone, email or in the post this constitues a firm booking. 2. Your registration constitues a legally binding agreement, payment must be received before the event. Any outstanding payment becomes the responsibility of the named delegate attending. 3. Cancellations must be made in writing. A refund less an administration charge of £25 will be given to cancellations received 2 months before the event start date. After this date the full fee is payable, regardless if the delegate attends on the day or not. Substitutions can be made, if we are notified up to 3 days before the event. 4. The organisers reserve the right to change the programme, speakers and venue as required. 5. In the unlikely event that we have to cancel the event we will issue a refund for the registration fee. 6.
